“Kompass” is the career-orientation program of the International Music College Freiburg for music courses of study in rock/pop and jazz.
This program is targeted for young instrumentalists and singers, who would like to prepare for an entry examination for musical training – either specifically for the Basic or Main Program of the IMCF, or in general, for study at other schools. This pertains especially to those with low- to middle-level skills, who feel unsure about their career choice, or to those who have already participated in an entry exam without success.
The courses cover these topics: rhythm training, harmony, ear training, reading and notating music, analytical listening, styles, instrumental or voice training in a band context, tips for preparing for entry examinations, as well as general information about studying music and life as a professional musician.
“Kompass” takes place in either the summer or winter semester on 8 dates, always Sundays, distributed over 4 months, and enables present students, as well as those who would like to study, to take part in a further journey.

Pre-Auditions 2011! For the first time it will be possible for applicants who live far away to apply for the IMCF through a pre-screening video audition. The results can be used to determine whether it is a good idea to travel a far distance for the live audition or where there might be room for improvement as preparation for the audition. Read more
