Tom Timmler
Saxophone, Improvisation, History of Film Music, Big Band

Education
Tom is a graduate of the Swiss Jazz School, Bern. His many-faceted musical experience includes working in “gala” big bands, accompanying European singing stars in theater productions (“The Merchant of Venice”, produced by Jan Mangaard), dance theater (“La Strada” – Pavel Mikulastik), composing for TV films (“Der Polenweiher” – SWF), symphony orchestras, and Rock & Blues bands (Cadillac Blues Band and Guitar Crusher).

His greatest love, however, is Jazz. He was a long-time member of the BBS Big Band (Guest soloists: Vito Rodriguez, Jon Faddis, Jiggs Whigham et al.), and played concerts with Alexander’s Swingtime Band, Benny Waters and the “Shorter Project,” together with Hiram Mutschler.

His current bands are the Gary Barone Quintet and his S Tuba Trio, with the Swedish tuba player Jörgen Welander, who is also a member of Howard Johnson’s Gravity Band. Tom has also been active for 18 years as a music teacher and has developed an extensive and unique teaching concept for improvisation.
