Christof began playing bass and then guitar at the age of 12 in his home town Haslach in the Kinzigtal. After studying guitar with Jean-Pierre Herzog in Straßburg, Michael Sagmeister in Frankfurt, and at the Jazz School in Bern, he was drawn to learn more in the USA. He graduated from the Bass Institute Of Technology (B.I.T.) in Los Angeles, where he studied with the “elite” of jazz and fusion bassists: Gary Willis, John Patitucci, Steve Bailey and Bob Magnusson.
Since the beginning of the ‘90s, Christof has been active mainly as a bassist in Germany, France, Switzerland, and the U.S.A. He has played for musicals e.g. “Porgy & Bess,” “Anatevka,” and “Baal” (Basel Theater), in duos, big bands, and choir projects.
He has taught e-bass, guitar and bands at the Jazz & Rock Schule Freiburg since 1994. From 1997 to 1999 he was also on the teaching team for the National Guitar Summer Workshop in Freiburg.
